British Spirals & Castings continues as a family run business and has a dedicated team of 19 staff over 3 sites; with a range of skills and experience that cannot be rivalled. Many of our staff have been with us since leaving school and joined as apprentices.
The story goes back to a man who wanted a spiral staircase for a barn conversion. He could not find anything on the market that was right, so he designed it himself and had it made up at a local foundry.
It was an excellent piece of work.
When others saw it, they wanted one for themselves, and before too long Richard Harding had the vision and drive to turn these one-off projects into a thriving business – Cottage Craft Spirals…
Over the last millennia, much of the natural woodland which once filled the Peak District has been lost. Now, however, the trees are making a comeback and we’re doing our part to ensure a leafier future for the Peaks.
Back in 2003 we decided that for every wooden staircase we made, we’d plant five saplings. And, with the ever-growing popularity of our staircases, this has led to us planting over 3,000 trees!
