How It Works

Our Order Process

When it comes to bespoke products, the process is a bit more involved than simply picking out what you like and adding it to your basket. Creating something custom takes a few extra steps, but our highly skilled team is here to guide you through every stage, from start to finish.

To make things as clear and straightforward as possible, we’ve outlined each step of our order and design process. This way, you’ll know exactly what to expect when you choose British Spirals & Castings for your project.

Order Process Steps

Step 1: Submitting a Quote Request

Begin by telling us about your project. You can either fill out a quote form or submit your Wishlist directly through our website. Once we receive your details, a member of our team will provide an initial quote. We might also reach out to discuss your project in more depth and answer any questions you might have.

If you are happy to move forward, we will then take an agreed deposit.

Step 2: Taking Measurements

To ensure your product fits perfectly in your space, we’ll need accurate measurements. In most cases we can get these without ever having to visit the site. We offer a comprehensive guide on how to measure your space, which you can find in our Help & Resources section.

For more complex projects, we may arrange a site visit to gather all necessary details. This may include using our laser scanner to take a highly accurate 3D scan of the space – this is especially useful for conservation projects where walls are often out of plumb or level.

Step 3: Design

With measurements in hand, our designers will start designing the initial concepts based on our discussions with you. These will include detailed 2D and 3D CAD designs. Depending on the complexity of your project, we may send you different design options to choose from.

We’ll then work with you, or your project team/architect, to finalise all aspects of the design including the choice of finishes, materials and fixings.
Once the final design is agreed upon, we’ll provide you with a detailed cost breakdown and an estimated timeline.

Step 4: Secure Your Project

Once you’ve decided to move forward with British Spirals & Castings, we’ll provide a clear schedule of costs and a timeline for the piece to be manufactured.

Step 5: Crafted in Britain

Every staircase, railing, and balcony we produce is made right here in Britain. Our cast aluminium components are cast in our Staffordshire foundry, then carefully finished at our workshop in Chapel-en-le-Frith. Our workshop team pre-construct each piece before packaging it to ensure everything is spot on.

Step 6: Delivery & Installation

In most cases, the last time we see our staircases, railings, or balconies is when it’s being securely boxed up at our workshop, ready to be shipped to projects around the world. Installation is often handled by a local builder or tradesperson of your choice, though some homeowners prefer to tackle it themselves. If you’re considering a DIY installation, we offer a detailed guide in our Help & Resources section to assist you every step of the way.

We do offer a limited fitting service for our railings and balustrades offering in the South East.
